making kin

A commissioned temporary public sculpture installed in Redmond Downtown Park, Redmond, WA.
About Making Kin:

Making Kin is a video-light sculpture made of a modified oil barrel with an LED “mini-jumbotron” screen which displays animations of a ghostly octopus unfurling its tentacles. The name of the piece comes from Donna Haraway’s book Staying with the Trouble: Making Kin in the Chthulucene in which she suggests facing ongoing ecological disaster by, in part, sitting with the tentacled, summoned things we can't control.

It was commissioned by the city of Redmond, Washington for the 2024 Redmond Lights festival in Redmond Downtown Park.

	Metalwork: Cyclefab
